A commercial space fails in small ways. The guest Wi-Fi drops the POS. The showroom lights stay on a scene from last night. The meeting starts and the laptop will not hit the display. The vendor still has a code from 2023.
None of that is one product. It is five systems bought from five people, none of whom owns the result.
Smart Home Studio’s commercial work is the opposite: access, cameras, network, audio, displays, lighting, and a single control layer, documented so the business can still run when the original installer is gone.
What “commercial” actually means here
The same brands that run a house — Control4, Crestron, Lutron — show up in businesses. The job is different.
- The user is staff, not the owner with the app.
- The space has hours, vendors, and a close-of-day.
- The network carries operations, not just Netflix.
- A failed room is a failed meeting, not a inconvenience.
Spaces we spec this way: offices, restaurants, hotels, showrooms, outdoor seating, and common areas.
The stack, in the order that matters
Network first. Cameras, displays, access panels, and room systems all sit on it. Guest Wi-Fi does not share a flat network with the POS or the recorder.
Access. Doors, codes, schedules, and a log. Staff, cleaning, and contractors are not the same permission.
Cameras. Coverage of entries, inventory, and service areas, tied to the same access story. A camera with no retention plan is a screen, not a record.
Rooms. Display, audio, and a control that starts the call. Huddle rooms need less theater and more reliability. Boardrooms need lighting and shades in the same scene as the screen.
Lighting and audio. Open, meeting, close. A showroom is a lighting job. A restaurant is an audio job that cannot fight the conversation.
One control layer. The manager should not open four apps to close the space.
When to take over instead of replace
A takeover is the right first step when the system already exists and nobody can support it. We assess what is installed, who holds the credentials, what is end of life, and what can stay.
Replace only the layer that is failing. A working Lutron lighting system does not need to die because the meeting room is a mess.
What a consultation should produce
Not a catalog. A short map: doors, rooms, network closet, who uses the space, and what breaks on a busy day. From that, a design, an install, documentation, and a support path.

Schedule a commercial consultation. We can assess what you have and specify access, rooms, lighting, and network as one job.
