If your Control4 system is still on OS 2, the house will not go dark. The keypads, remotes, and touchscreens inside the home keep working. What ends is everything that leaves the house.

Snap One has set August 4, 2026 as the date remote access and cloud services for OS 2 systems are retired. After that, the app away from home, push notifications, Intercom Anywhere, Alexa and Google voice, weather, and remote dealer support stop. Local scenes and schedules on the controller continue.

4Sight subscriptions on OS 2 systems have already been winding down. Auto-renewals were turned off so customers would not keep paying for a service that ends. The OS 2 app has also been pulled from Google Play; existing installs may still run on older Android phones, but a new phone or a deleted app can strand you.

This is the landing for that call: the remote stopped, or you were told it will. We check the controller, the project, and the path — software upgrade, hardware, or X4 — before anyone sells a new system.

What still works after August 4, 2026

  • Keypads, remotes, and in-wall touchscreens on the local network
  • Scenes and schedules that run on the controller itself
  • Lighting, shades, and AV that do not depend on the Control4 cloud

What stops

  • Control4 app away from home
  • Push notifications and email alerts
  • Intercom Anywhere
  • Amazon Alexa and Google Home voice control
  • Weather and other cloud-driven features
  • Remote dealer programming through the old cloud path

If you travel, rent the house, or rely on the app from the office, this is the date that matters. If you only use wall keypads, the system still functions. It just no longer has a cloud.

Can your controller upgrade in software?

Many systems can move to OS 3 without a new brain.

Usually a software path: EA-1, EA-3, EA-5, CA-1. A dealer runs a staged update (through intermediate releases, not a jump to the latest). The project is backed up first. Bindings and drivers are the reason the path exists.

Often needs hardware or a different plan: older controllers that cannot run OS 3, end-of-life touchscreens, or a project that has been modified so many times the upgrade is riskier than a clean rebuild.

X4: Control4’s current platform, typically on CORE controllers, with Connect as the subscription for remote access, notifications, Intercom Anywhere, voice, and related features. New systems are handed off on X4. For an existing OS 2 house, the right move is sometimes OS 3 now and X4 later, and sometimes a step to X4 if the hardware supports it.

We confirm the controller model and the project before quoting. “Upgrade” is not one price.

What an OS 2 assessment includes

  1. Controller model and current OS
  2. Project backup and a restore test
  3. Touchscreens, remotes, and drivers that will break on OS 3 or X4
  4. Whether 4Sight / Connect is active and who holds the dealer account
  5. A keep / software / hardware recommendation

If the original dealer is gone, this is also a takeover. We can often get into the system. Some accounts need a dealer transfer through Control4. Budget that time before you budget new gear.

OS 3 vs X4 for an existing Miami home

  OS 3 X4
Best if EA/CA controller is healthy and the house is stable Hardware supports it and you want the current path
Remote access Continues with the appropriate subscription Connect
Interface Current OS 3 app Newer X4 experience
Risk Staged update, tested project May need controller or touchscreen changes

Stay on OS 3 if the system is solid and you mainly need remote access restored. Move toward X4 if the controller is due and you want the platform new systems are already on. Do not replace a working EA controller because a catalog says “latest.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my lights stop on August 4?
No. Local control continues. Remote and cloud features stop.

I lost the app on a new phone. Is that the same thing?
Related. The OS 2 app is no longer reliably available for new installs. An upgrade restores a supported app path.

Can this be done remotely?
Often the software update can. A site visit is still the right call if touchscreens, the rack, or the network are unknown.

Do I have to buy a new system?
No. Many OS 2 houses are a software upgrade. Some need a controller. The assessment decides.

Conclusion

OS 2 local control survives August 4, 2026. Remote access does not. The useful response is a controller check and a staged path to OS 3 or X4 — not a full replacement by default.

Still on Control4 OS 2 in Miami?

Book an OS 2 assessment. We will tell you whether the controller upgrades in software, what hardware has to change, and what remote access looks like after.
